Brought up in a family of artists, Jerome Prieur began to draw at an early age. His style evolved as it is today. His painting technique combining acrylic and ink on canvas has made his art unique and rarely seen.
The themes are about people and life – both past and present. Prieur paints about people’s careers and professions. He also focuses on religion, war, contrasting relationships and taboo subjects. Prieur researches each project carefully – sometimes delving into the subject matter for years prior to painting an impossibly detailed and intricate new vision. Prieur’s approach to his work is to take banal subjects and transfor them into over – calculated through provoking pieces that are filled with humoristic inventions and are also mixed with disturbing elements that becomes an endless journey for the eye.
Ironically, Prieur lives a simple life. His uncomplicated life is a direct contrast to his work and at times many people have questioned his sanity! Trying to balance his work with his personality is at times more complex than the pieces themselves. Harmless, his work represent parts of our planet…after all, don’t we live in crazy world?
Jerome Prieur currently lives and works in Montreal and Calgary. His works are parts of private collections in Canada, U.S.A and Europe.
